Defective E-Bikes Given a New Life.

The Challenge

An international manufacturer faced a major issue: shipping containers full of defective e-bikes had landed in Canada. The units couldn’t be sold and needed to be destroyed: safely, securely, and sustainably. The requirements were clear: protect the brand, handle lithium-ion batteries responsibly, and avoid landfill at all costs.

Our Solution

Blue Planet designed a tailored, end-to-end program. We separated the bikes from their packaging, removed and sent the lithium-ion batteries to a licensed recycler, stripped rubber tires for waste-to-energy recovery, and directed metals and components into specialized recycling streams. Even the cardboard and plastic film packaging were recycled.  Every step was handled by experienced teams and trusted downstream partners.

The Result

The outcome was 100% diversion from landfill, with all materials responsibly processed. The client received full certification of destruction; brand protection was assured; and valuable commodities were recovered. What was potentially a costly liability became a sustainability success story.
