Recycling the Toughest Stream - Packaged Liquids.
The Challenge
Packaged liquids such as milk in cartons, juice in pouches, and alcohol in cans and bottles are notoriously difficult to recycle. The main barrier is separating liquid contents from their packaging. Without specialized processes, these products are often landfilled, wasting valuable resources and creating unnecessary environmental impact.
Our Solution
Blue Planet developed a breakthrough depackaging process that handles every type of packaged liquid. Liquids such as milk, juice, beer, and wine are recovered safely and redirected into animal feed or converted into bio-based energy. Containers – including aluminum cans, glass bottles, Tetra Paks, and plastics – are separated and recovered.
The Result
Thousands of litres of liquid and tons of packaging have been diverted from landfill. By capturing both the food content and the packaging, Blue Planet delivers true circular recovery, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting agriculture and energy generation, and proving that even the most complex waste streams can be transformed into value.
