Confidential X-Ray Destruction to a Higher Value Concentrate.
The Challenge
A Provincial Health agency had accumulated years of archived X-ray records requiring secure disposal. The sensitive nature of patient files demanded strict confidentiality, while the X-ray film itself contained silver concentrate that posed environmental risks if sent to landfill. The agency needed a solution that addressed privacy, compliance, and sustainability, without creating added costs.
Our Solution
Blue Planet deployed its experienced technicians to manage the project end-to-end. Paper records were carefully separated and securely recycled, ensuring total confidentiality. The X-ray film was then processed through our enzyme-based recycling system, which separated the plastic from the emulsion. The PET plastic was recycled into new materials, while the silver was refined into high-value concentrate.
The Result
The agency received full compliance, brand protection, and environmental assurance. Even better, the proceeds from silver recovery not only covered the cost of the recycling service but also generated a sizable rebate: funds the agency directed toward further cancer research. What began as a disposal problem became a financial and social benefit.
